"Battenburg cake or not?"

A review of Tower Bakery by Geoff written on Sunday 3rd of December 2017

The battenburg cake by Tower Bakery, which I bought in The House of Briar, was a great disappointment. My understanding is that a battenburg cake is alternating layers of pink and yellow sponge, coated in jam and wrapped in marzipan. This cake had highly coloured, mediocre sponge and wrapped in what appeared to be fondant icing which was very soft, bright yellow and without a whiff of marzipan flavour. I had hoped for something really nice a bit different from Bruar and Tower particularly when it cost £4.95. If I'd wanted an iced sponge I'd have been better going to a B&M store and saving £3.95..
